I have been back in Lake Placid for about a week now after our three-week Germany Camp. The camp was great but it has been nice to be back in my own bed and catch up with my family and friends.
Overall, the camp went really well. We spent the first two weeks in Ruhpolding, Germany and the last week in Oberhof. We have done this exact same camp for the past few summers and it’s always one of my favorites. Although I always enjoy my time training in Lake Placid, it’s important for me to get out and train next to some other teams. It’s always a good reminder that there are a lot of other athletes training hard as well.
Oberhof was also very productive as I had the chance to start testing some of my new skis for next winter. I was very happy with my first batch of skis and I look forward to putting them to the test next winter!
Unfortunately I ended up catching a cold right when I returned home last week. It seems like I end up getting sick about 80% of the time after training in the ski tunnel. I don’t know if this has something to do with the air in the tunnel or is more related to the long travel home after a challenging training camp. In any event, at least I had a very easy week of training planned so I guess it happened at a good time. But of course I was very disappointed to miss out on the Climb to the Castle roller ski race. I really enjoy this style of race and I had looked forward to giving it another try this year.
Tomorrow I will join in on some intensity with the ski team. It’s always fun to train with a new group and I look forward to see how these guys are skiing!
