Back to Work

Skiing at Whiteface on the 28th of April

Skiing at Whiteface on the 28th of April

After enjoying a relaxing April, I am now back to my normal training routine.  Unlike the previous few Aprils, this year I decided not to travel anywhere and instead I stayed right here in Lake Placid.  I spent more than six months on the road last year so I was really content to just relax around home this spring.Of course I was just not sitting around for the entire April, but I was just not following any set training schedule.  I did spend quite a bit of time talking with my coaches this spring and together we now have a plan for next year.  I am really excited about the plan that we made.  I feel like we kept the aspects that have worked well for me in the past but we are also exploring a few new areas.  Of course I want to continue improving so in order to do that I need to continually mix up my training.  Even though I am happy with how my shape was for most of last season, I need to try new things to give my body some new stresses to react to.Today I was out for a four-hour bike ride and now my legs are definitely a little sore.  I always find that I have the hardest time with training during the first few weeks back after spring break.  My body is always a little shocked and it takes a few weeks to fully adjust.  Some of the adaptations come really quick though as I can already feel my appetite kicking back in.Springtime in Lake Placid is always a little unpredictable and the weather can vary from summer temperatures to winter snowstorms as we saw last week.  Last week we received a pretty decent snowstorm and I had to dig my skis back out for another two days of alpine skiing.   Although that was fun, I am hoping for some warmer temperatures for my spring training. Thanks for checking in!

You missed a good time visiting some old friends on Sunday. Will be back for at least a Threepeat on MAy 15th last obligatory hurdle that has to be done before leaving for 3 month training camp. If you are there and need to become nauseatingly familiar with a certain 8 stretch of road………….Otherwise DO NOT ANSWER YOUR PHONE. Lock your doors. Take all necessary precautions.
